Sailor Moon Manholes in Japan & Where To Find Them |

It is common for famous anime and manga franchises to get homaged in Japan by having a manhole cover design. The time has finally come for “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” to have its own commemorative designs in the Minato area of Tokyo, the area the anime is set in!

Originally, when this blog was first published in January 2024, the Sailor Moon franchise announced 5 different designs based on manga illustrations, with the background colors representing each Inner Sailor Guardian. They began installing them on March 21, 2024.

They have been adding more since then.

They’ve installed a 6th in March 2026, and now a 7th in May 2026.

Below we list the approximate locations of all 7 manholes in order that Sailor Moon Official lists them.

However, it doesn’t make sense to visit them in order shown if you want to do this in one day.
(You can also split them up over days)

In May 2026, the Sailor Moon Manhole Map has been updated to include the 7th manhole.

In 2024, an area map that shows the location of the each manhole was distributed as well as souvenir paper coasters for those who answered a questionnaire at the Minato Ward Tourism Information Center (Fudanotsuji Square), General Branch Management Division in March 28, 2024. One per person will be given until supplies last.

They have continued to update these maps in 2025 & 2026. Flyers of these maps are available in English and Japanese at the Sailor Moon Store.

The Public Relations office of Minato City has published their monthly newsletter with information on the installation of the manhole covers. The printed version of this newsletter can be found around the Minato area or download the pdf version here.

Souvenirs for the first installment in 2024

After the Sailor Moon manhole’s are installed, they will distribute a “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon x Minato Ward Design Manhole Map” and souvenirs.

The Sailor Moon Manhole map will be free of charge to those who respond to the questionnaire. (Late March 2024) See this site for distribution & up to date details.

The other souvenirs will be distributed only at Fudanotsuji Square (5-36-4 Shiba ) among the Minato City Tourist Information Centers. More details soon!

9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Open year-round, except on days when the entire facility is open).

✦ Manhole Card – to be released late April 2024

The first Manhole card will be the Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask design. The Manhole cards will be distributed at the Minato City Tourist Information Center starting at 9:00 a.m. on April 26, 2024.
*Limited to one card per person.
